Impressive - even for those of us retired from actively running!

Pam: Thanks for your note. Remember what I say in the book... Nobody can set out and run 26 miles, even if they are in terrific shape. Its simply too much for anyone to get their head around. But you can run six miles four times in a row... And then do a two mile victory lap!

Keep it up!

I have also decided to do my first marathon. I've never even come close to considering it before, so this is a really new goal for me. I bought new shoes and have started training. My longest run so far was 5 miles, and I couldn't believe I did it! It was even up and down several hills. I'm glad you mentioned the extra sleep you seem to need. I've been sleeping a lot more. Now I know why! I get a little panicky when I think of the actual race--like how could I possibly ever run that far?! But then I remember I don't have to run that far today. Only one little chunk, whatever is on my training calendar, and I focus on that. I'm excited!

Ben: Thanks for this. I love your enthusiasm. Keep up your good work and best wishes. You will do it! Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help you. By the way, I love thin mints too.

I finally resolved to run a marathon and have been receiving your newsletter. I am totally pumped! I am finding that I have already done a lot of these things you mentioned just because I am so motivated to do it. I talked to my wife and my co-workers, and I am planning on getting some new shoes and socks this week. As far as sleep goes, I find that I am getting better sleep now that I am exercising. I am blogging about my journey on my website (http://www.fellowsweekish.com/?cat=31). My longest run to date is 4.6 miles but I find that I am progressing quickly. Wish me luck!
